Simplify

I am the obstacle in the pathway of all human progress

I am the obstacle in the pathway of all human progress.

Dunno about you, but I sure feel like that some days.

I often describe my job as a designer as creating elegantly simple solutions to complex problems. And wow do I excel at seriously complicating the simplest of things. LOL 🤪

I worked with a professional organizer many years ago and her motto was SIMPLIFY. At the time it was about space, things, and clutter, but the same approach works for me in all areas.

The simple act of clearing clutter and getting rid of stuff feels so great once you’ve done it. Doesn’t it? Like a big energy boost. I tend to feel inspired and creative after every time I do it.

Have you ever tried this with intention? I highly recommend decluttering and purging your work space. Especially if you began working from home due to COVID.

Now, what if you applied this elsewhere?

What if you applied it to your content marketing strategy?

Mind. Blown?

Kim and I just had conversation about being strategic, consistent and prolific when it comes to content marketing. I believe 1000% that we all need to be strategic and consistent but I don’t believe everyone needs to be prolific. As an avid essentialist, I strive for doing less, and better.

What can you simplify?

Here in the States, we are celebrating the three day Labor Day weekend. If you can, take some time and list all of the tasks that make up your current content marketing activities.

What can you simplify or cut?

Once you start doing this, it becomes addictive and you may want to start simplifying other areas of your work life.

I was listening to my friend, coach and client David Taylor-Klaus give a talk the other day as part of his new book launch (Mindset Mondays with DTK: 52 Ways to REWIRE Your Thinking and Transform Your Life). He was talking about how we tend to have long lists in our minds of all the things we “should” or “have to” or “need to” do that get in the way of us doing the things we want to do, the things that matter most to us. And how ultimately this can suck the life out of us.

What if you simplified THAT list and shed the shoulds so you are left with only those things that matter most to you?

Imagine how that would feel and what you could accomplish!

Now go simplify something. 🙂
