The stupidest thing I ever heard

“That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard!”

Is it really?

We often react this way to out-of-the-box ideas that may actually be the path to innovation.

Ideas that are outside of our comfort zone can be difficult to accept, especially if they seem ridiculous at first.

So you’ve probably heard of the internet, right? 😉 At one point people thought it was the stupidest thing ever.

Newsweek, February 26, 1995
“The truth is no online database will replace your daily newspaper, no CD-ROM can take the place of a competent teacher and no computer network will change the way government works…”

“How about electronic publishing? Try reading a book on disc…Yet Nicholas Negroponte, director of the MIT Media Lab, predicts that we’ll soon buy books and newspapers straight over the Internet. Uh, sure.”

17 years later, Newsweek ceased print publication and became exclusively available online.

So the next time you hear something that makes you think, “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard,” try to explore it further instead of immediately dismissing it. Who knows, it could be the next big thing.
