Did you know that 75% of blog views and 90% of blog leads come from old posts?¹
Look at your website analytics, do you see traffic going to older blog posts? When was the last time you reviewed these older posts?
Older blog posts can be extremely valuable for a website. Not only do they help to establish your website as an authority in your field, but they also have a compounding effect that can lead to even more traffic and revenue.
These older posts continue to drive traffic and leads long after they are published. You’ve already done the hard work of creating this content. To make the most of your older posts, there are a few things you can do:
- Update them to ensure they are always relevant.
- Continue to promote them on social media and through email marketing.
- Include calls to action to encourage readers to take further action. (and make sure existing CTAs are still relevant)
One of my top-performing old posts is from as far back as 2008 — The Art of Album Covers! Another surprising one about the Met Museum releasing images for free use is from 2017 (surprising because it is only about 70 words and common advice is that posts should be min. 300 words for any SEO value).
Both already feature a call to action to subscribe to Fresh Squeezed, but some other things I might consider are:
- For the album cover one, I may add some examples of the covers I’ve designed (maybe also include some testimonials from various artists I’ve worked with), and promote/link to my design service
- For the Met Museum one, I’ll to really think…
