Treat all email responses like SMS text messages

Inbox ZERO?! Pffft! Mine is more like Inbox 8,675,309.

If your inbox is constantly overflowing and you can’t seem to keep up with responding to emails, then the 5 sentence rule is for you! This personal policy dictates that all email responses — no matter the recipient or subject — will be five sentences or less. It’s easy, it’s efficient, and it’ll help you get through your inbox in no time.

You may be thinking this is just another gimmick, but it’s not. I’m not nuts, there is science behind this!

Studies have shown that the human brain can only focus on one task at a time. And by keeping your responses short, you’re able to focus on responding to email more effectively and reduce the chances of inbox overflow. It’s also been found that short emails are more likely to be read and responded to than long ones.

But don’t take my word for it — try it out for yourself! If you’re not convinced, check out this post I wrote a while back.
