Most of us don’t converse very well. We listen with the intent to reply, not to understand. A great conversation requires a balance between talking and listening. This balance is important because bad communication leads to bad relationships, at home, at work, everywhere.
In this engaging TED talk, professional interviewer, NPR reporter, host and correspondent Celeste Headlee tells us how most of the advice we’ve heard on the topic is crap and shares her 10 basic rules for having the kind of conversations where you walk away feeling engaged and inspired, or like you’ve made a real connection or you’ve been perfectly understood.

PS: Celete’s book Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing, and Underliving is a great read.
