It is difficult to sell to goldfish

We now live in a world where we are more interested in information than ever before, yet researchers claim that we are forgetful, easily distracted, and our attention spans are shorter than those of goldfish. Yay us!

As marketers, it is difficult to sell to goldfish.

However, there are still ways to hold our attention:

  • Be clear in your messaging
  • Keep your messaging short and sweet
  • Focus on UX and ease of navigation
  • Appeal to consumer desires
  • Use video and tell stories

So I was curious just how short is the attention span of a goldfish…and where did this info originate?

  • Goldfish can focus on a task for up to 9 seconds.
  • People generally lose concentration after 8.

Is it true and accurate? I don’t know, but if you want to keep my attention, try using some of the tips above.

Clear messaging is always good marketing!
