Shut up. Listen. Repeat.

Being a good listener is underrated.

Good listening is rare. So rare that being listened to feels so much like being loved, people can scarcely tell the difference.

Most people are waiting for their turn to talk when they should be listening. Listening is not just about hearing what the other person is saying, it’s about understanding them. Listening is how we learn about other people and how they see the world. It’s how we build relationships and create trust.

Trust is key for any type of relationship, especially when it comes to business.

When prospects trust you, they become customers. When customers trust you, they are more likely to return again and to refer others.

It can be difficult to really listen, especially if you’re thinking about what you’re going to say next or you’re distracted by other things. But it’s important to try. The next time you’re in a conversation, shut up and really listen to what the other person is saying.
