What could you do today that would matter a year from now?

Almost every day I talk with people about their big ideas and their businesses…all the things they “are going to do.” Their intentions are true, but the reality is that the majority of these things never happen in reality. Their ideas may be great, but the actions to support them are lacking.

I often wonder why this is so. Do we not want it enough? Are we undisciplined? Unfocused? Afraid? Unsure? Distracted? Overwhelmed?

Yes. We are human, so all of that.

The truth is, the only thing standing in your way is you. (and me, of course, because I am the obstacle in the pathway of all human progress).

Amelia Earhart said “The most effective way to do it, is to do it.”  Well put, Amelia, well put. ✈️

I can’t guarantee you success, but I can guarantee that if you take consistent imperfect action, your odds of success increase exponentially.

You can’t just think about the things you should be doing. You actually need to be doing those things.

Are you actually doing the work (lead indicator)?  If you are, the results will come (lag indicator).

Stack the odds in your favor by focusing on your outputs (lead indicators), which are 100% in your control. If you do this, you are more likely to improve your results (lag indicators) — which are not 100% in your control.

According to The 12-Week Year, “…if you successfully complete 85 percent of the activities in your weekly plan, then you will most likely achieve your objectives.”

Keep it simple:

  1. Define your focus/goal is for the next 90 days (If not 90 days, it must still be time-bound)
  2. Plan your essential weekly actions each week
  3. Keep track of your execution (not just your outcomes)
